Small steps

This is for all of you who have been holding out for some tangible results from my academic work since switching to sociology. First, I have my first official soc journal publication — a book review to appear in the next issue of Contemporary Sociology. Second, I’ll be presenting my MA work at the American Sociological Association meeting this weekend in Philly. I’ve read a number of articles by some of the other folks presenting in my session so hopefully we’ll be able to have a lively discussion. Unfortunately, they’ve crammed about as many people as humanly possible into the session (1 presider, 1 discussant, and 5 papers). We have 8-10 minutes each to present. I’m not sure how I can condense a 37 page paper into an 8 minute talk. I’ll let you know how it goes. Aside from that session, I’m really looking forward to the conference. I’m especially excited to attend the reception and sessions for two sections: Science, Knowledge, and Technology and Communication and Information Technology.
